This gorgeous artisan Devon Maund is lovingly hand-crafted in Golden Bay by The Trug Maker, and is an example of the trug making craft in one of its finest forms.
The Devon Maund, or Splint Basket as they are sometimes known, was originally used as a basket for gathering and storing produce such as potatoes and onions which were then stored in a cellar or cool place until needed. Fill with kindling and sit by the fireplace, or simply display at home - it's a stunning interior decor piece and a beautiful gift for someone special.
Made of wooden (aspen) slats which are shaped and shaved with traditional hand tools; the froe and drawknife. The pieces are then steamed and attached with copper nails to the previously steamed and moulded rim and handle. The base of the basket is bound with a strip of copper and the top features an oval willow rim and handle. It's strong and sturdy without being too heavy.
