Groconut Experiment: Updates & Results

Time for another update on our Groconut experiment! Our wee Pink Polka Dot seedlings are now about 8 weeks old. If you missed our first update, we’ve been trailing Groconut plant tonic by giving it to one seedling, while the other gets plain water. Our last update was 4 weeks ago; you can catch up on the details of our experiment & the first 4 weeks of growth here.

Our two plants seem to have sensed a hint of spring in the air. They’ve both packed a lot of growing into the last 4 weeks! Check out their progress shots:

Note: Our Pink Polka Dot Seedlings have moved from the Gubba office to live at a staff member's house, for the duration of lockdown! Our progress pictures may look slightly different for week 8.

We’re still seeing some great results from our Groconut seedling. Here are the most obvious differences to note:

  • Our Groconut seedling has noticeably bigger leaves! It also has a greater number of leaves in total.
  • While our plain water plant actually grew to be the taller of the two during week 7, our Groconut plant seems to be directing its energy outwards rather than upwards; it’s definitely the ‘bushier’ of the two plants. From week 8, the Groconut plant gained back the height difference.
  • The Groconut plant is also more rounded and even, with branches & leaves all the way around the stalk, and large leaves at the top and bottom. Our plain water plant has grown most of its foliage mainly on one side, and has only very small leaves at the top. This is despite the two plants being placed in the same spot, with the same amount of light.
  • The Groconut plant has a noticeably thicker and sturdier looking stalk.

Throughout the experiment we have remained impressed with the growth of our Groconut plant when compared with our water plant (although our water plant’s growth is still good!). The main difference that’s gotten us excited is the increased

‘bushyness’ - who doesn’t want bushier plants? The extra foliage gives it a more luscious, healthy appearance; the larger sized leaves also contribute to this.

Although we have not been using any other fertiliser on our plants for the sake of the experiment, it is safe to do so. However Groconut has no risk of nutrient burn! Groconut's active ingredients are proven to increase absorption of nutrients, including calcium. This means that when you use it alongside fertiliser, your plants will be able to absorb even more nutrients for enhanced growth!

Groconut is also a go-to when trying to prolong plant life. The active ingredients give your plants more time to establish new growth, as well as giving you more time to resolve issues like over-watering, under-watering, sunburn, and transplanting. We hear it’s also fantastic for propagation, helping cuttings to establish stronger root systems faster.

The final verdict:

Since the week 8 progress photos were taken, our plain-water plant has started to sprout small purple flowers. For Pink Polka Dot plants, this means they are reaching the end of their growing season and need to be pruned back (our Groconut plant is yet to flower, meaning it still has more growing to do!). This brings our Groconut experiment to a natural finish.

We’re pleased to confirm that Groconut IS worth the hype. Although we’ve ended up with two healthy plants, our Groconut plant is stronger, bigger, and grew faster. It has larger leaves, more foliage and a sturdier stem. We would happily recommend Groconut to any avid indoor gardener out there!

Thanks for following along for our experiment. You can find out more about Groconut here, or grab a bag and judge the results for yourself!
